Just got a release from D.C.'s Arena Stage touting Carrie Fisher's purportedly Broadway-bound one-woman show,
Wishful Drinking, which premiered to
mostly nice-to-
mixed reviews in L.A. a few years back. What even the Geffen Theatre didn't do (as far as I know) to promote the show, though, was to offer free tickets to the theatergoer who sends in the best Princess Leia lookalike photo. The Arena staff has already had
some fun with the buns. Well, it beats forking over hard-earned scratch for the
latest Lucas abomination.

Here was my CityBeat blurb on Wishful Drinking:
Like too many celebrity solo shows, Carrie Fisher's is an awkward attempt to cram her life into two hours of stand-up patter and occasional novelty songs. Although some of the material is juicy, her stage presence is fuzzy and anxious, lacking the energy to sustain her for more than a half hour in her own salon, let alone a theater. The Geffen Playhouse, 10886 Le Conte Av, Westwood, (310) 208-5454. Geffenplayhouse.com. Call for performance schedule. Closes Jan 14. (Don Shirley)
