The Bard of Silverlake? The Bard of Silverlake?!?! You've got to be fucking kidding me! Justin Tanner is the biggest crybaby, no-talent, can't-work-without-a-drink, unprofessional HACK I have ever witnessed in action. Even James Taylor has jumped on the Tanner bandwagon in his "Theatre Talk" segment on KCRW, calling him "the Bard of Sav-on!" WILL YOU CRITICS PLEASE STOP CALLING THIS NO-TALENT A BARD!!!
This is so LA, to cannonize and sanctify work from an irascible little humonculous, mostly on merit of his immature sodomy jokes and junior-high-level drug references. It would be one thing to laud an asshole like Tanner if his work was good, but he doesn't even approach the prowess of LA's best playwrights. Sorry, Rob, you've missed the mark here.
When Justin Tanner plays a ranting, tantrum-throwing diva, he is not acting. It is so typical of his arrogance to believe tv would steal his ideas, and so discouraging to see critics calling this one-trick pony a major talent. There is nothing praiseworthy about recycled ideas and spoiled brat behavior. It gives me hope for the future of Center Theatre Group that Michael Ritchie has never heard of him.
