When I hear a song like "Temecula Sunrise" that's so unrelated to any sort of traditional (or even non-traditional) meter I always feel like the composer must be some sort of savant. With Yes, King Crimson, Brand X (Genesis side project that played with meter alot), etc., you always could feel the effort and intention behind the meter games...I feel like this is coming naturally from Longstreth's brilliant but slightly off brain...a brain that doesn't cling to sets of three and fours like the rest of our brains do. It reminds me of some hard-to-pin-down African rhythms I've heard.
