If you can, I would look up info on Annea Lockwood's "four elements"... four performance pieces each one anchored around the destruction of a grand piano.
In "fire" she tuned the piano very tight and set it on fire, in "water" she sank it, in "earth" she buried it and I believe in "air" it was dropped from either a very tall building or a helicopter. I'm not sure if recordings exist of any of them... which is too bad. I bet "fire" sounded amazing.
