If anyone can tell me what this photo from today's NY Times is supposed to suggest, I'll give them my plus-one seat to a show of their choice (though not the Taper's
Stuff Happens, the occasion for this pairing of Brit David Hare and departing Taper head Gordon Davidson—I've already lined up a friend for that).
With this show and Cornerstone's final "bridge" show of its faith-based cycle of plays,
A Long Bridge Over Deep Waters, opening tonight, this is among the more astounding weekends of theatre openings I can recall in the area. Personally, I'll have seen four shows by the time the weekend is through.
Playwright David Hare straightens his tie in a gesture of self satisfaction, having successfully thrashed director Gordon Davidson for sleeping through yet another rehearsal of his play "Stuff Happens."
ReplyDeleteDavid Hare haughtily rejects the eccentric exfoliation technique which Gordon Davidson enthusiastically demonstrates a wall of the Mark Taper Forum.

They'll have to pry this theatre away from my cold dead hands!
ReplyDelete... or, "From my cold dead hands, David, from my cold dead hands!"
ReplyDeletethey changed the locks!
ReplyDelete"Yes, um, Gordon, um, I'm sure the building HAS been like a mistress to you"
ReplyDelete"O wall, full often hast thou heard my moans,
ReplyDeleteFor parting my fair Pyramus and me:
My cherry lips have often kiss'd thy stones:
Thy stones with lime and hair knit up in thee."
(Hey Rob -- it's Kerry Reid. And congrats on the Little Clapping Man gig.)
